The online registration for the Level 1 competition was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development on May 5, 2023, in Chennai, which resulted in registration of huge numbers for TN Skills 2023 skill competition. The registration was closed on July 15, 2023, with an overwhelming response of 53,995 registrations from all over Tamil Nadu across 38 districts and our State topped the registration figures.
The Level 1 competition, which was conducted on September 24, a total of 18,518 participants appeared for the exam across all 38 districts in Tamil Nadu. This Level 1 competition was conducted in 93 venues comprising 2905 exam halls, covering all 38 districts from all over Tamil Nadu. Out of these, 2,351 candidates qualified for Level 2. Level 2 Competitions conducted from 25th December 2024 to 15th February 2024 collaborating with 14 Industry partners and 6 Academic partners and Level 3 competitions from 1st March 2024 to 18th March 2024 for all 48 Skills collaborating with 16 Industry partners and 4 Academic partners.In the India Skills 2024 Competition 87 competitors, hailed from Tamil Nadu which is the most among all Indian states and union Territories, showcasing their abilities across various trades and disciplines.
Tamil Nadu’s participants made a remarkable impact, securing a total of 40 medals (Gold – 6, Silver – 8, Bronze – 9, Medallion of Excellence – 17). This commendable performance placed Tamil Nadu in 3rd position nationally, improved from 10th Position in last edition conducted in 2021.
The TN Skill Corporation introduced the “Naan Mudhalvan Niral Thiruvizha Hackathon” for final-year engineering students. This initiative seeks to inspire students’ innovative and entrepreneurial thinking to address persistent issues and real-world problems with technology-driven solutions that improve quality of life.
Niral Thiruvizha 1.0, 2023-2024 statistics:
An expert committee comprising academic and industry experts evaluated the submitted ideas based on five parameters: Impact, Innovation, Scalability, Feasibility & Viability, and Execution plan. A grant of ₹10,000 was awarded to each of these 1,000 teams to support prototype development.
TNSKILL Corp held the regional review for shortlisted 1000 ideas from June 25-28, 2024, at eight venues across six cities in TamilNadu (Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, and Tirunelveli). In total 837 teams participated and evaluated based on the following five criterias Societal and Industrial impact, Deliverables from commitment, Novelty, Commercial Viability and Presentation.
The final grand evaluation took place on September 23, 2024, at the CUIC auditorium at Anna University, where an expert committee from StartUp TN assessed 124 teams for commercial viability and innovation and shortlisted top 50 teams for the innovation voucher funding of Rs. one lakh per team.
A residential boot camp was conducted on October 25-26, 2024, in Nagercoil. The boot camp aimed to support and nurture the winning teams of Niral Thiruvizha 1.0, helping them evolve into successful startups. All 50 teams received StartUpTN smart cards, which will provide them with access to various resources and benefits.
